[00:00:00] I'm at the underscore life underscore unexamined underscore podcast. And there I'll be sharing some video content of me discussing various topics that I talk about on my episodes during the week. And I'll also be sharing my words of the day to keep you actively thinking. And please visit my website, examineourlives.com, where you can find information about my podcast,

[00:01:46] information about myself. to address that right away. Y'all looking for keywords, terms, right? For me to be like, oh yeah, I'll struggle with this. I need him to address that. Yeah, we're not doing that today. We're not, we're not doing that today. Nah, nah, not today. Just pump your bricks a little bit. That's all, that's all I ask of y'all. Just pump your bricks a little bit. I'm going to address that in future episodes, but for right now, we're not, we're not that they struggle with. And, oh, you know, I just don't understand why my life is going this way. Uh, you know, I, I'm trying. I just, I don't get it. You know, just bad things happen to me all the time. My goodness. My goodness.

[00:04:24] The woe is me attitude, but let me say this right now.

[00:04:28] The complaining doesn't do anything for your life whatsoever.

[00:04:29] Okay. for every person, which is why your foundation is what is most important. We're about to get into that soon, but we live in a society today where it's about, oh, it's about feeling good, right? It's about telling people what they want to hear. It's about, don't be rude, don't be blunt, don't say what you want. You just have to cater to everybody's feelings. Yeah, I'm not doing that.

[00:05:40] I'm not catering to anybody's feelings.

[00:05:42] We're talking about helping people.

[00:05:44] We're talking about getting somebody in a mindset that a wife, a girlfriend, a boyfriend, a best friend, a mother, a father, brother, a sister. They can't be with you 24-7. And even if they are there with you 24-7, you're going to have to deal with all of their problems also. So at the end of the day, you're always going to be stuck with you.

[00:07:00] That's who you live with 24-7, you.

[00:07:02] So when you look in the mirror and it's just you, nobody else is there.

[00:07:07] What do you see?

[00:07:08] Are you happy with what you see? But we don't even think about it. We just go through life, but no more of that, because now we have our sights set on a path to a foundational journey. And in order to get there, we first got to look to Merriam-Websters for the definition of a foundation. A basis upon which something stands or is supported. An underlying base or support.

[00:08:21] A body or ground upon which something is built or overlaid.

[00:08:26] With all of the definitions that I've just and gives support. When it comes to the foundation of a home, we don't really think about, I'm not going to say everybody, right? Because we're all different, but a house is a place where we live, a place to sleep, where we lay our head, a place to eat, a place that gives us warmth, a place that gives us cooling, and the list goes on.

[00:09:41] Essentially, well, at least in theory, it's up to you. Because that's the work that you put in to determine that. But let's continue on with the house analogy. You could live in a house that has foundational problems. Many people do it and they're not even aware of it. Sometimes it takes years for a mild issue to develop into something bigger that poses

[00:11:02] serious risks.

[00:11:04] With that being said, neglecting the issues will eventually lead to much more serious

[00:11:08] problems. Look at walls, ceilings, check for cracks, check cabinets, doors, window frames, floors, rotten wood, etc. In this same house is analogous with people because we have to check, we have to examine

[00:12:25] ourselves, we have how to drink, we learn how to write, we learn how to read, we learn how to communicate, we learn how to tie

[00:13:40] shoelaces, and this is just a small list of what we learn when we're younger. information when you get older and it's going to pay off. Now, there is some truth to that. You know what I'm saying? There's definitely truth to that, and not so much all the information that we learn, like history for an example. A lot of information that's given to us is BS, it's propaganda, and they don't give us the true history by any stretch cause confusion? The list goes on, but both nature and nurture play a huge part in that. Our personalities, are we conditional or unconditional people? How we were raised, who we hung around, our environment?

[00:16:21] It's like a whole pot of different elements.

[00:16:24] So we have to humble ourselves and embrace the fact that You know the saying, once an adult, twice a child? That's true. You know, I've seen that firsthand in my life with many people, but I also believe that we all have that inner child within us and it shows throughout our lives. We all need to learn and we're all mental. I don't want to say mental because that sounds kind of crazy. I'm sorry, y'all.

[00:17:40] It sounded like I was about to say we're all mental patients, but nah, like we're all

[00:17:44] like mentally, mentally, we're mentally like children.

[00:17:48] You understand what I'm saying? trauma. So when you have a situation like that, that's where things get all, it gets really messy now because when you're dealing with traumatic events, that has serious ramifications that could change who you are. So that major storm, that changes your house, that could destroy your house. A hurricane, a tornado, it's going to bring all that pressure to your house.

[00:19:00] It's going to have a huge impact on that house.

[00:19:04] Destroying the siding, breaking the windows, breaking the doors, lifting your house off places. Having the ability to rebuild is dope. It's great. But we don't want to keep doing that over and over again because that leads to burnout, mental stress, and exhaustion. And I don't know about y'all, but I ain't trying to go through that over and over again in my life. You know what I'm saying? I've been through enough of that and it's just not sustainable. And with all that being

[00:20:21] said, this is a slow process. This is not changes to the bathroom, etc. All of those additions that you make to the house that make you feel good. The house takes on your style and your mindset. It's a representation of you. And once you get past that and you want to get a little bit more advanced with it,

[00:21:40] then now you can start thinking about adding't want to put the foundational work in.

[00:23:00] I know.

[00:23:01] But we want to eliminate the skipping of the steps and that's going to lead to an easier

[00:23:06] life.

[00:23:07] Nah, that doesn't mean that. So I have to make the best of that situation for the rest of my life.

[00:24:20] That's what I make the best of.

[00:24:22] But for everything else that happens in my life that I can control,

[00:24:25] please believe I control that.

[00:24:27] I'm behind the wheel. episode 1, The Beginning, The Groundwork, The Foundation. And before I officially sign out of here, I want you all to know that this podcast is about the mental journey to figure out who we are, to challenge ourselves from within, and think deeply while we cruise through multiple trains of thought and mental planes. We all deserve a life that's worth living. Please believe that.

[00:25:43] And when them storms come, y'all better be ready.
